Yahoo Review Travis's Song To Self

"It's hard not to feel more than a pang of sympathy for Travis. The turn of the century saw the quartet ride on the swell of goodwill elicited by the typically British shrug of the shoulders that was"Why Does It Always Rain Me?", as they went on to headline one festival after another, usually with the rain tipping down on cue.

However, somewhere along the line, Fran and co found their position as the nation's favourite inoffensive balladeers cruelly usurped by the inconsequential hand-wringing tedium of Coldplay, the stadium indie of Snow Patrol and the thoroughly pleasant though no less boring warblings of Keane, to the degree that their current appeal falls within that diplomatic area known as "selective".

"Song To Self" finally sees Travis' original promise of "All I Wanna Do Is Rock" made flesh with a slice of widescreen action that eschews acoustic guitars for plugged-in electricity. This jarring jolt creates a reaction they haven't induced in almost a decade. Is this really the same band that sent us off to sleep with "Flowers In The Window"? Well, the real question remains whether they have simply left things far too late and could the title just be painfully prophetic?"
