The third part of our small business blog has gone live on the Sky News website, and is currently the main feature on the Business Homepage!!
"We had a lovely text message yesterday from British Gas telling us that average gas prices were dropping by 10%. Any reduction is great news, although starting this price drop towards the end of winter is a little questionable, as is the speed they passed on the prices rises last year when the price of oil peaked at almost $150 a barrel.
So why are prices still so high? The cost of wholesale gas has fallen by 50% in the last couple of months, but they've only passed on a measly 10% to they loyal customers. What will Centrica's (British Gas' parent company) profits be this year, when they rose by 40% last year? Can't the Government clobber big businesses that supply vital utilities with a windfall tax to stop them doing this? And how did they get my mobile phone number?"
