Gigwise : The Most Controversial Album Covers Revealed

"Following the unveiling of the new James album last week, Gigwise has put together a gallery of the top fifty controversial album covers of all time.
The poignant James album cover, showing a baby reaching for a handgun, caused such a stir amongst PR companies that it is unlikely the image will be used to advertise the album.
If you think that sounds controversial, think again. The Gigwise gallery uncovers some of the most horrifying and disgusting album artwork used to date. CLICK HERE to see the list in full."

Sonny J "If Fatboy Slim was French"

Great review for "Enfant Terrible" on Channel 4 Music:

"If Fatboy Slim was French - and liked guitars a bit more - this is what he might produce. Pounding beats combine with rapping school children and wave after wave of heavy rock axe. There's certainly no way of pigeonholing Sonny J who seems intent on having every style of music on one catchy three minute single. It does all work however and the Riton Remix is even more bonkers with the song seemingly trapped inside a space invaders game. Magnifiqué."

Utah Saints Interviewed By Digital Spy

Digital Spy's interview with the Utah Saints is live

"Sixteen years ago Utah Saints stormed the top ten with 'Something Good', an exhilarating house tune featuring a clever sample from Kate Bush's 'Cloudbusting'. It was one of several hits for the Harrogate duo, Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt, who went on to collaborate with Michael Stipe, remix everyone from Blondie to The Osmonds and even tour the world's stadiums with U2: how many dance acts can say that? Now, having been given a pulsating remix by Aussie electro outfit Van She Tech, 'Something Good' is heading for the top ten again. As Tim tells us, it's come as a bit of a surprise.

How did the remix of 'Something Good' come about?
"Well, it was all pretty organic. James and I are massive fans of music blogs, and it just turned up on one of those. The guys [who've remixed] it are from Australia - they're called Van She Tech. They made their own DJ edit of the track, freshening it up with some new beats, and passed it around among their mates. Pretty soon the DJs started playing and it really began to take on a life of its own. We'd been planning to remix it, so we offered them to help them out a bit. We dug out our old floppy discs, reconstructed the track and sent it out to them so they could really freshen it up."

Are you a fan of the new version?
"Yeah, because it wasn't a forced thing at all. I don't like it when record companies think 'Ooh, we'll make a few quid by remixing this record'. I think sometimes you can tell when things have been contrived. This thing started out as a DJ edit and it built because people were playing it. It was organic."

Chart News : 3 Records In The Top 10

Great week this week, the first time we've had three records in the top ten at the same time!

H'two'O Ft Platnum is at number 3, Utah Saints are in at 9 on downloads alone, and Basshunter is at 10

Popjustice "Notes on 'Something Good '08' by Utah Saints"

Superb feature on today's Popjustice homepage regarding the Utah Saints (In shops this week)

» It is 16 years old and also one of the best dance records of the new millennium, much as it was one of the best dance records of the boring old millennium.

» It has not got better with age - it has merely followed a steady trajectory of amazingness over the course of time. (ie It has been remixed.)

» There is a Welsh angle to the video and Duffy is Welsh so if Utah Saints knock her from the Number One spot next week that will be interesting or something or maybe not.

» In the same way that Girls Aloud's version of 'Jump' removed most of the good bits from the original and managed to make even better new bits, removing the 'Utah Saints' chants from the new remix and putting in a few new bells and whistles has put the new version of 'Something Good' into an almost completely different realm of amazingness to the original.

» Here is a little reminder of the original video and here is the new one. Very funny. Here is Kate Bush's 'Cloudbusting' video too, just in case you wanted to hear her sing all the other words (including Algernon, daddy and yo-yo).

» The new video has at least given local radio something to fill their days with.

» The video has also successfully got Utah Saints out of having to do any rubbish club PAs because they can send a load of dancers to do the running man for ten minutes and still get paid for it. KERCHINGETC.

» It is already in the Top Ten 'on downloads alone'. A year ago this sort of thing would guarantee something very impressive indeed positionwise the following week, but these days it's anyone's guess what will happen to the song now it has 'gone physical'. (If any of you would like any more of this in-depth chart analysis just get in touch at the usual address.)

» If another song from the 'Something Good' era was going to be remixed and rereleased, we would like to nominate Felix's 'Don't You Want Me' for the honour.

» Isn't it odd how dance songs can be released on numerous occasions and still be popular? The same couldn't be applied to, say, a slightly different version of China Black's 'Searching'.

» Anyway 'Something Good 08' is the best new single in your shops this week, well over a year since we first mentioned it on Popjustice. Although it wasn't called 'Something Good 08' back then because it was 07 in those days. Hurrah.

Sun Online & Newspaper for Cahill Ft. Nikki Bell's "Trippin' On You"

WAGs Trippin' for house tune

THEY'RE the heavily-tanned premiere league honeys who like to party. And now they’ve adopted an anthem to soundtrack their nights on the tiles.

House producer Cahill’s club track Trippin On You has been claimed by the likes of COLEEN MCLOUGHLIN, ABIGAIL CLANCY and ALEX CURRAN as their signature track.

Chelsea star FRANK LAMPARD’s wife ELEN RIVES has even stuck the choon up on her MySpace page.

Cahill consists of three producers – SCOTT ROSSER, ANTON POWERS and TIM CONDRAN.

Powers is one of the most popular DJs on the northern club scene, with residencies at Garlands and Sankeys.

"James LP Artwork Banned" The Sun

From today's Sun & Sun Online;

"MANC rock legends JAMES have had their new album artwork banned.
The cover of the outfit’s comeback LP Hey Ma, which you can see exclusively here, features a baby and a handgun.

And advertising chiefs have run a mile from its controversial subject manner.

Consequently, don’t expect to see any billboards carrying the image as nervous ad execs have slapped a complete ban on the artwork.

Nevertheless the unrepentant veterans are going ahead with the image despite the objections.

Hey Ma is the group’s first new studio album in seven years and their tenth in a career that has seen them shift a whopping 12 million units.

It’s out on April 7.

Azzido Da Bass "Doom's Night"

Having gone from cult classic to crossover success, 'Dooms Night' is the record that has never gone away and is a mainstay in many djs record box or cd wallet.

Originally released in 2000 this gradually built a real head of steam via the UK Garage community who really took the Timo Maas Remix to their hearts. Having had a massive knock on effect through clubbing meccas such as Ayia Napa and filtering thru to Ibiza this exploxed on the UK chart, peaking at #8 and appeared on millions of compilations.

Future Loop Foundation Single Of The Week DMC Update!

Future Loop Foundation's "Sunshine Philosophy" is this weeks single of the week on DMC Update's Weekly Newsletter!

"Mark Barrot aka Future Loop Foundation has got a new album in the pipeline 'Memories & Remixes', which is built around vocal samples, lifted from old family tapes of when Mark was a carefree teenager. But before the album arrives at the end of next month, there's an absolute peach of a teaser single, in the shape of the Rob Da Bank & Chris Coco Remix of 'Sunshine Philosophy'. From the moment it sweeps in you're overcome with summer holidays nostalgia and hints of Lemon Jelly. Then before you know it the bassline has slid into your system, soon followed by a fat 4/4 beat, and your transported into 21st Century Balearic, giving a nod and a wink to the classics, but also using today's know how to take the surreal feel one step further. Rob Da Bank & Chris Coco's remix of 'Sunshine Philosophy' will soundtrack a lot of tomorrow's memories."

Red Blooded Women Popjustice's Song Of The Day!

"We can tell you right now that by the end of the year you're going to be so sick of exciting new girlgroups that you'll be literally banging on James Blunt's front door begging him to release a new album but, for the time being, it's something of a novelty to have one, like Red Blooded Women, come along which a) isn't crap and b) bucks the trend of the independent girlband world by not making unlistenably bad 'music' based on outmoded pop ideologies last relevant six years ago."

"Introducing Red Blooded Women" Arjan Writes

"Red Blooded Women is gearing up to take over the pop world and be the next Sugababes (or Atomic Kitten for that matter). But Candy, Carly and Liz are planning to do it a little different than those babes who paved their way.

"Just because we’re a girl group, a pop group as it were, we didn’t see why we couldn’t do something a little different, music that was a little bit awkward and edgy," the ladies explain in their press biography. "People kept telling us that we couldn’t do it, but the thing is, we’re stubborn girls. Every time someone used the word can’t, we just tried that bit harder."

The group has been working on a bunch of songs together with young producers they solicited on MySpace. They posted two of their tracks on MySpace that turn out not to be so drastically different and "edgy" as promised. "Colour Me Bad" is a straight up pop tune that is largely based on Yaz's memorable "Don't Go" (that will make Yaz fans cringe) while "Synthesizer" is a throbbing club banger featuring an '80s synth organ and a take it or leave it attitude."

September "Cry For You" On Arjan Writes

"After almost three years, September's poptastic "Cry For You" is still going strong. The Swedish pop outfit first released the single in 2005 and it has been been a huge hit in almost every European country since then. The group recorded a brand-new video for "Cry For You" to support the release of the song in U.K. on April 7. The video is a fine slice of neon-lit goodness that perfectly matches the track's gooey eurotrash sensibilities. It's a great one to get you energized for your daily cardio workout or to cheer you up during that dreadful morning commute to the office."

Archangel "Not The Man You Think I Am" Video

Archangel's new single "Not The Man You Think I Am" is out today.

"Not The Man You Think I Am" is a song to deceive to, a post valentine love feud, driven by anarchic piano and the kitchen sink having fallen out on a bender. "I bought a book about love today, you'll never read it and I know that's what you'll say" clearly a doomed relationship, but with Primal Scream tinged euphoria and a neurotic love of The Four Tops' harmonies, make this track a pathos fuelled anti-love song, that fills the mind with tears, but stuffs those dancing feet with joy."

The video was once again designed, produced & directed by Archangel guitarist Alex Morgan!

Archangel are supporting The Shortwave Set on 15th April, Curious Generation @ The Soho Revue Bar, London

3 Records In The Top 15

H'two'O are still at number 2 in this weeks chart, Basshunter drops from 4 to 6, and the Utah Saints jump from 25 to 13 off an iTunes exclusive - it gets its full digital release this week.

Bob Sinclar Ft Steve Edwards Featured on KISS FM Blog

"Bob Sinclar is the super fit, planet loving Parisian pop star and international DJ, Steve Edwards is the Sheffield born, son of a preacher man and famous voice behind the UK no.12 chart stormer 'World Hold On'. They bring us their next big UK radio project - 'Together' - out on March 24th.

On first listen it's a great pop song, but on closer inspection there is an important message that is aimed at everyone, young and old, black and white, people from any culture or religion. It tells us we are all responsible for the choices we make and we all can make a difference. From recycling our waste and cutting our carbon emissions to just getting on better and caring for each other. This way we will be able to pass on a better world to our children."
